Is the shape adjustable?

Yes, you could pull the top connector to make it the shape you want (Rectangle, Hexagonal, L-shape, etc). You could also make it smaller by removing panels unneeded.

Why is the top connector broken after I pulled it out?

The top connectors are locked with each other to prevent missing parts. You can press down or pull out the top connector slightly to maintain the "fix" and "folding" status. Avoid pulling out the whole top connector if not necessary.

Is it secure to use on flooring?

It can be set up in our living room on Wooden flooring/Tile/Carpet and it works great.
